Zeverland base building: from a mattress to a fortress
Your camp starts absurdly small — a mattress and a water filter — and grows into a fortified settlement with power, crops and a working NPC crew.

The starting loop
- Shelter first. Official material describes camps beginning from nothing but a mattress and a water purifier — survival basics before fortress dreams.
- Scavenge, then build. Building materials come from the same dismantle-everything loop as crafting: furniture, fencing, vehicles — all of it is parts.
- Staff it. Recruited NPC survivors take over cooking, sewing, brick-making and patrols so the camp produces while you explore.
What's on the building roadmap
The July 2026 roadmap and Fireside Chat #03 confirm the systems being built out for camps:
- Power system — lighting and powered stations for your base.
- Farming & fishing — self-sustaining food instead of endless scav runs.
- NPC & building polish — named as an active workstream in the July 2026 roadmap.
- Vehicle planting — playtests even showed a growing area mountable on vehicles.
Defense in a PvE world
Zeverland is buy-to-play co-op PvE — other players are not the threat, zeds are. Camp defense means walls, patrols and mounted firepower against hordes, and the roadmap's strengthened PvE protection rules exist to keep it that way.
Related: vehicles as mobile bases — the rolling half of your settlement — and the world projects your camp's production can feed.
